Deadlands Black Water One Shot Review
First taste of Deadlands and it tasted real good!
I like the one shots to get a bit of a feel for what a series is about. I really liked this one and the character of Lyle Crumbfine. A cowpoke guide who knows his way around the Maze. The Maze is a place of wild and danger. Lots of folks go in and never come out. Weird things like Maze dragons and whirlpools make travel hard but those are just a start.
This book follows Lyle rendering his services to a seemingly crazed city man named Harmon Rappaport. Accompanied by his bodyguard Ian Fairfax, the two are in search of a woman from Mr. Rappaport’s past..
Mariotte’s story was really good. I like the world of the Maze. It looks like it’s in California where the coast is pretty much broken apart. This world is a tough place and really unique. I was a bit surprised at what happened at the end and was left with several questions that I wish would have been answered.
Turner’s art was good. The setting is around the time of the Civil War and I like the clothes the characters are wearing. There are some really good action scenes as well. The uniqueness of the Maze looks really good. My favorite pane is the full page of the Waterspout! Check out the full preview of this issue here!
With this introduction to the Deadlands world, I may look for a jumping on point or a new series start that I can get into. For more information on this world, check out the website here!
